Urban Drama

Well, we live in a city--the most dangerous city. I have never felt unsafe in the city where I live and I truly like living within the city limits and not in the suburban sprawl. Well this morning progressed like any other morning, except that Minnow slept until nearly 8am. The phone rang about 9 and it was a nice man who is a security guard at one of our lightrail train stations. He was asking if we had parked our car their recently. Well not for over a month--you might be able to see where this is going. Anyway, hubby said no and when the nice man said he had found a bunch of our personal documents, etc in the parking log, hubby went to the front door and noticed that one of our cars was gone. So, we filed the police report and contacted the insurance company, etc. Then about 11 the cops called and they had located our car. Of course it wasn't really driveable as the steering column had been messed up when they had to hot wire the car. Now the car is enroute to our local auto shop. I am hoping that they will be able to fix it, less we have to have it towed somewhere else. I love city living....

that sucks! Our #1 ranking has been discussed lately around here. I have always felt safe, including doing home visits with the kids I work with. Daddy-O on the other hand does not feel I'm safe. I honestly think stolen cars is the biggest problem in the city, it is pretty bad!

That's crappy luck with the car. I have been working in London for the last few days, and while I wouldn't say I don't feel safe, I do become more aware that you really don't know anybody after spending any time there.

The thing that really annoys me is the general ignorance and rudeness of those who work in London. I was continually amazed by the thoughtlessness of others.

That is so annoying. You are left to deal with the aftermath of someone elses joy ride. You would almost rather not have the car back, huh? Then just get a new one. We have neigbors from NY that have stories of cars going missing, then being found a month later and sitting in a police impound lot and having to pay to deal with the car MONTHS later. Grrr

I have also lived in London (the dodgy part) as well as the worst areas of Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow and Moscow. Now we live in the city that has the number 1 murder rate in the country.......As a white woman, I mostly felt safe. I think some of it is random. The only time I was mugged was on the campus of an Ivy Leauge university. Not in the rough neighborhoods where I lived. Go figure.

Although, once in Liverpool somone set our car on fire--right in front of our house, but it was after Manchester United beat Liverpool in a football match....so, as long as you don't leave your car on the stree there, you are dandy.............

Still stinks about the car......
